Welcome to AubreeTeaches. I share my tips, tricks, and resources for being an educator that does things differently!
Happy Teaching!
The Numeracy Rope was inspired by the power of the Reading Rope as a visual framework for understanding the many strands that contribute to skilled reading. As I deepened my own study of mathematics research, I found myself wishing for a similar visual that captured the interconnected knowledge, skills, and processes that contribute to mathematical proficiency. This resource is not a new theory of mathematics learning, nor does it represent a single research study or organization. Rather, it is my attempt to synthesize and visually represent ideas drawn from established bodies of research, including mathematical proficiency, learning trajectories, number sense development, and mathematical processes and practices. This wonderful body of research across decades is cited below. The Numeracy Rope reflects my interpretation and organization of this research in a way that has helped me make sense of the field and communicate these ideas with educators. My hope is that it serves as a useful tool for reflection, discussion, and professional learning.
One of my favorite parts of this work is partnering with teachers to explore the research behind the framework and consider its implications for instruction. Through workshops, professional development, coaching, and conference presentations, I help educators connect research to practice in ways that support meaningful mathematics learning for all students.
